This 914 sat out side fora few years before we purchased it. It would not start, even with a fresh battery. The twin Weber downdraft carbs need rebuilding and I'm sure the ignition system could use a tune up. A call to Pelicanparts.com had two rebuild kits on the way.
The Weber downdraft carburetor is the the simplest one I have ever rebuilt. A carb rebuild was all it this 914 needed to fire right up.
It does however need an ignition tune up. That will be next.
After rebuilding these Weber 40 downdraft carbs the biggest issue was adjusting the throttle linkage. The adjustment was so uneven that one carb would remain in high idle with no pressure on the foot pedal. This dumps extra raw fuel into the system causing lots of back firing. I used the recommended mixture screw settings and with the linkage adjusted properly it starts and idles smoothly.
