There is no doubt about it. A 1956 Imperial was designed and built for people who demanded the highest class of luxury an American production car could provide. Although missing only a couple of trim pieces, the interior of this Imperial was complete. It just needed to be completely replaced, repainted, and or restored. From original head liner to new jute underneath the carpet, every cloth material was replaced. The dash panel was removed, media blasted and repainted. The dash pad was recovered. The steering wheel was repaired, repainted and real leather hand grips were sewn on. The front power two way seat mechanism was removed cleaned, lubricated, painted, and tested for proper operation. Original seal upholstery, headliner material, and trunk liner was purchased from SMS fabrics in OR. Wind lace was made with leftover seat fabric,
Despite all of the newness of the interior I just couldn't bring myself to replace the original door panels. Yes those are the original door panels with a manufactures date of "10 17 55" sprayed on the backs. I love the history of light use and care they show.
